“As an HR Business Partner (HRBP), I can attest that most leadership problems are people problems; it boils down to relationships. Cooper and Evans point out poignantly that since people are messy, it’s crucial that leaders know themselves, know how to connect with those around them, and learn how to build effective relationships that values differences. Developing emotional intelligence is not an easy feat, but this book does an excellent job at pointing out key steps to developing your EQ through the DiSC-EQ framework (synthesizing DiSC and EQ). As a certified facilitator of DiSC, adding the EQ component is something that I know is only going to enhance dialogues that much further. The guidance about the importance of knowing yourself, how to increase self-awareness, is information that I’m already jotting down to fold into my HRBP conversations with leaders. Solving the People Problem is full of resourceful nuggets, and I greatly appreciate the self-reflective activities, leadership stories and examples, and periodic Insights that give additional context or information to a topic. In a world post-Covid, where so much of our workforce is remote and not physically together to connect, the ability to connect with others in meaningful, effective ways based on our styles is all the more crucial. Solving the People Problem gives concrete tools on how to get there.”
